I can understand why you may have decided not to watch Aquarion EVOL. It’s a sequel to a show made in the early 00’s that wasn’t particularly well received. Even if the sequel is set 12,000 years into the future, it probably wasn’t worth checking out. Let me tell you now, as a person who never watched the original Aquarion, that EVOL is glorious. Gloriously stupid, gloriously cheesy, gloriously insane, full of the dumbest metaphors and overblown characters with fantastic speeches. Instead of trying to convince you to watch it with a review trying to talk about its positives in a vague fashion, I will instead list out a number of the things that occur during the series. Keep in mind that Aquarion EVOL does (almost) all of these things with a totally straight face. You may stop reading when you have been convinced.

1: When piloting the giant robots, the characters discover they can detect incoming missiles better the more skin they have exposed, so each pilot starts enthusiastically tearing off their plugsuits.

2: When the robots combine, the characters go into a sparkly otherworld where they fly through space naked while exclaiming how exhilarating the feeling of ‘combining’ is.

3: There is a character called Andy W. Hole. Because he’s an artist like Andy Warhol, except he uses holes to make his art.

4: A villain infiltrates their school to find information, but gets won over to the good guys side by the power of moe.

5: Each character gets buried underground as a form of intensive training, where they each go through an existential crisis.

6: One of the female’s boobs are routinely referred to as her “Big Bangs”.

7: When the lead male character gets really…into piloting the giant robot, he can unleash a special move called “Infinity Punch”, which is essentially a metaphorical erection.

8: There’s a scene where the adults are all in the Evangelion NERV style control room where each character tries to form a meaningful metaphor out of the doughnut they are holding.

9: It includes the line “I would rather have my body broken than my heart”.

10: The wall separating the male school and the female school is called the “Berlin”, which gets knocked down by the aforementioned “Infinity Punch” so the girls and boys can finally mix.

11: In the above mentioned sequence where the characters start tearing off their clothes to detect missiles better, the glasses-wearing piano-playing blonde-haired bishie, who is nowhere near the fight scene at the time, gets so into their overflowing energy that he too starts to button down his shirt.

12: The fujioshi character has a special power of ‘decaying’, which causes metal to rust when she’s in the giant robot.

13: A villain character, whose power is reversing other people’s’ powers back at them, constantly tells a girl that she stinks horribly and that he hates her and wants to kill her, but it turns out that this is because he talks in reverse and is actually hopelessly in love with her.

14: Andy W. Hol tries to chat up the girl whose power is to fill up holes by saying “let my dirt be the dirt to fill your hole”.

15: When the main character gets turned on, his ankles grow wings and he starts to fly. When one female character squeezes her boobs against him and he starts floating, the girl he was supposed to be hitting on sulks and says “so you’ll fly for anyone”.

16: This is called a cat.

17: So is this.

18: When the boss is away, instead of giving them simple orders in a letter or on the phone, he sends them a box with a doughnut and ants inside and forces them to work out what metaphor he’s saying today.

19: There’s an episode where the characters take a hot spring in the giant robots and the water is filled with bananas.

20: That moment where you discover the title of the show is Aquarion LOVE BACKWARDS.

After finishing this episode I could only think, “WHY HARU WHY U CRAY”. But my head has cleared now enough to clarify that I liked this episode a lot, despite how confused I am. Unlike the previous episodes, it left me feeling excited and anxious for the next. It’s a huge step from previous antics of cutesy boyfriends fishing together and being touchy-feely; and, best of all, we’re actually getting somewhere plot-wise, even if the place we got to leaves us more in the dark than in episode 1!

HEY. I could have made this a lot worse.

Just after his triangular halo snaps, so does Haru! But what does it all mean? Has Haru shown us his “true” nature, as Akira put it (meaning he’s a evil)? Or, perhaps, Haru is going about his mission in the wrong manner? (Which wouldn’t be surprising…) Honestly it’s hard to see him as the enemy, especially when Yuki mentioned in episode 1 that the four of them saved the world, but there are some things that elicit some pointing out.

△ Haru = Bad △

He has a gun that controls people. Of course, the first few episodes focused on how he shouldn’t use these, but an unregistered alien coming to Earth with a mind-control device? Usually that’s when the Men in Black come in, right? Also, during the control the person’s memory is blocked out–memory manipulation…

Forcing/manipulating Yuki into fishing. Yuki didn’t get the idea of fishing on his own, didn’t he? And why won’t Haru and his sister tell him what kind of fish he has to catch? Could it be… a dragon fish? >:O (I feel stupid for not thinking of this before…) Perhaps Haru & Coco wanted Yuki to fish up the dragon so it could once again wreck havoc and spirit away – kamikakushi – humans!

Coco – whom we will assume is on the same side as Haru, for now – basically prays to the dragon statue and leaves an offering. That seems awfully… fishy *ba dum tsssh*

△ Haru = Good △

He’s cute. Kind of. Well, as mentioned many times before he’s more annoying than cute to me, but if he were really bad then he’s either a good actor or that halo of his represses the evil until they’re able to get the fish he & Coco are looking for. He seemed to genuinely care for Grandma, though.

Yuki mentioned in the narration that the four of them saved the world. Even if Haru is bad somehow at the moment, he (and his sister?) would have to switch sides somehow.

“This is where we meet after a hundred years!” – Could Haru actually be… THE PRINCESS? (Or: related to the princess, reincarnation of the princess, being possessed by the princess or someone else) Then again, being the princess doesn’t necessarily mean you’re good…

Haru’s hand shaking. Perhaps it was possession, and realized what he was doing was wrong and tried to fight it off. But he probably would have done that before shooting his BFF Yuki ;; Or, he kind of came to himself – from being possessed – during his face-off with Akira since he’s usually frightened of Akira, hence the shaking. Why is it that Haru & Coco are afraid of Akira, anyway?

Before the ED, we see the fishers from the beginning of the episode out in the ocean at night, dancing the Enoshima dance, just like Natsuki and Yuri, but Haru doesn’t seem to be there. Perhaps the temple or the priest might be involved in some crazy dragon-worshipping cult?!

I’m running out of things to say…

Oh man… what a crazy episode! Even the first half, which was following the same vein as usual, had a lot of interesting things to it, especially since we got to see more of Akira and his investigation, and they finally spoke of the dragon & princess story. We even got to see Erika and hear her talk again! You know, girl with the mole? Yeah, I almost forgot about her, too. The girls need more screentime, but I guess since the boys’ friendship and their character development have been the selling point so far the focus won’t be on the women.

But if Tsuritama’s good for anything besides boys being cute, cool animation, and character development, it’s bringing up a noodle load of questions with no answers. Maybe next episode it’ll delve more in detail about what the hell is going on, or what’s going on with Haru (the whole ordeal seems to have a weakened his “heart,” if he has one), and get the plot really going. Or, maybe it’ll step back for one or two more slow, cutesy episodes before everything goes to shit, which I would absolutely hate but could imagine happening. Their beloved grandma is back, and with the party going on everything is hunky-dory… for now…

That’s how you “plant” someone into the ground.

Summary:
Back in Soul Society, Yuki and Shino are dispatched to meet 13th division’s sixth seat Hidetomo Kajoumaru. Yuki wonders why the shinigami and Quincy fight each other, and Hidetomo gives Yuki and Shino a quick history lesson about the conflict. Basically, shinigamis purify hollows and maintain the soul balance between Soul Society and the human world while Quincies destroy souls which upsets the balance and can lead to destruction of both worlds. The shinigamis tried to negotiate but the Quincies wouldn’t listen, and so 200 years ago the shinigamis decided to wipe out the Quincies.

Meanwhile in Hueco Mundo, Ayon grabs Kirge and repeatedly slams him into the ground. Apacci comes to taunt the downed Kirge but gets stabbed by Kirge for her troubles. Kirge then gets back up and powers up some more.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Can Ichigo please hurry it up and put an end to Kirge? Not too surprisingly, Ayon appears and gets a few hits in on Kirge, but Kirge is far from beaten and probably is going to power up and wipe the floor with Ayon and the three fraccions. This fight seems somewhat pointless and is taking longer than it should. I rather see the Vandenreich invading Soul Society, but that didn’t happen this week either. Rather, we have a short history lesson about the Quincy Shinigami conflict, and most of us know this stuff already. Obviously, the Vandenreich/Quincies are want payback for the previous war, but there is probably a lot more to it since what was told is only the shinigami side of the story. Mayuri and Yamamoto are hiding something from most of the other shinigamis, and it’ll be interesting to see why Quincies refused the shinigami’s offers so consistently.
A little deja-vu?
Summary:
Kabuto cuts Itachi in half. Sasuke tries to grab Kabuto with Susanoo but Kabuto jumps to the ceiling. Sasuke and Kabuto spit sprays at each other and Kabuto get the better of it. Itachi then appears in front of Kabuto who stabs Itachi with Sasuke’s sword, but one of Itachi’s eyes becomes clouded and he turns into crows. Itachi gets the sword back and slices at Kabuto, but Kabuto dodges. Kabuto thinks he has the upper hand, but Itachi declares that he is already controlling Kabuto’s destiny with Izanami. Kabuto doesn’t believe Itachi and goes after Itachi and Sasuke again with the stomach snake technique. Kabuto manages to damage Itachi once again and then stab Itachi in the back, but then Itachi turns into crows, gets the sword back and slices at Kabuto and the slice shaves off the tip of a horn that Itachi should have already sliced off. Kabuto now knows something is amiss but still doesn’t believe he got genjutsued, so he goes after Itachi again but the same sequence of events occur. Back in the real world, Itachi stands in front of a still Kabuto and explains to Sasuke that he used Izanami to put Kabuto into an infinite loop that Kabuto cannot escape from.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hahahahaha the magic Sharingan strikes again! Despite this being the inevitable conclusion, I am actually happy that Kabuto finally got trolled by the Uchiha magic eyes. The fight was getting long in the tooth since Kabuto had a long flashback (which I was hoping was induced by Izanami but it wasn’t) and didn’t look like he was going to do anything spectacular to beat the Uchiha bros. I was hoping Kabuto would do something cool like pull out another zombie or something, but he was just going to rely on Sage Mode senses and speed and sealing shut his own eyes to win. Kabuto should have known from his research that Sharingan techniques are beyond reason lol. Kabuto getting stuck in an infinite loop is pretty hilarious, and given this is a forbidden Sharingan technique that cost zombie Itachi one of his eyes (how does that work… I thought zombies can regenerate any part of their body) Kabuto is unlikely to break out of it… on his own anyways. Itachi has Kabuto stuck in a loop now, but does that mean he can make Kabuto recall the zombies?
Summary:
Team Pied Piper and Ao fly back to Generation Bleu’s headquarters which is a strange structure sticking out of some mountains. The Triton is taken into the landing bay and Ao meets the company’s technical director Alexander Boyer who will be repairing/making adjustments to the Nirvash. Rebecka gets the job of look for Noah but instead finds Gazelle’s group, and Gazelle demands to see the boss. Meanwhile, Ao is taken for medical testing. The staff tell Ivica that Ao almost perfectly normal, except that his eyes may see a wider spectrum of light than other people. Fleur and Elena then lead Ao into the underground city that houses of the Generation Bleu staff. While at the security desk, Ao sees internal news coverage of Noah on the loose and runs into the underground city to find Noah.

How did these stowaways get jobs so easily?

Gazelle, Han and Pippo are taken by Rebecka to Christopher’s office. Gazelle reveals that he and his friends saw Team Pied Piper taking out the cube from the Scub Coral which caused the coral to go dormant, and Gazelle also notes that the cube was similar to the small cubes that infected his FP and led up to the Scub Burst. Gazelle questions what Generation Bleu is really up to, and Rebecka silently reaches for her pistol. However, Christopher decides that Gazelle and friends are interesting and hires them into the company. Rebecka takes Gazelle’s group to take a train and they bump into Fleur who doesn’t quite recognize the three men from Okinawa. On the train, Rebecka’s phone starts ringing, alerting her to a Scub Burst event in progress.

If the team is called Goldilocks, then the big guy must be Papa Bear.

Back in the city, Ao and Elena walk around trying to locate Noah, and they find the sloth with three girl pilots and the leader of another IFO team, Team Goldilocks. Ao and Elena chat with Team Goldilocks, and the team leader Bruno welcomes Ao to Generation Bleu but advises Ao to leave or else he will do something that hurts his loved ones. Team Goldilocks then gets to signal to sortie for the Scub Burst event, and so Ao and Noah follow Elena back to Elena’s apartment where Elena leaves Ao outside and gives Noah a shower before tossing Noah out of the apartment. Fleur returns to find Ao and Noah outside the apartment and Fleur wants Ao to think about why he came to Generation Bleu.

This G-Monster is like one of those amusement rides that swing people around.

Gazelle and gang follow Rebecka to the command center where Ivica and Christopher are watching Team Goldilocks in action. Team Goldilocks investigate a suspicious storm cloud approaching the coral. The three IFOs piloted by Maev, Maggie and Chloe fly out to the check out the cloud, and to their surprise they find an UN IFO flying nearby. Giant limbs of a Secret/G-Monster then appear out of the clouds to knock the UN IFO and Maggie out of the sky, and the remaining Goldilocks IFOs are also in trouble. Having lost contact with his pilots, Bruno calls headquarters for reinforcements, and so Ivica and Team Pied Piper are asked to launch.

Suiting up for the first official mission.

Ao is standing in Elena and Fleur’s apartment not sure what he is supposed to do when the girls get the call to prepare for launch. Ao reluctantly follows and Ivica arrive to show Ao where his flight suit is stored. After changing into the suit, Ao and the girls grab their IFO keys from Rebecka, and Alexander informs Ao that the “Mark I” will be designated Nirvash from now on. The IFOs and their pilots are then loaded onto the Triton and the Triton blasts off into the sky.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Late post because I had to deal with what turned out to be very difficult final exam over the weekend, but regardless of how badly I did the academic semester is over, so I should have a little more time to devote to this blog. In episode 5 of the show, Ao gets a taste of his new home at the Generation Bleu city inside a mountain. Not the most dramatic or exciting of episodes, but such transitional episodes are necessary in the story. In his search for Noah, Ao meets another IFO team in the Goldilocks, and the Goldilocks leader Bruno gives Ao some worrisome and somewhat cryptic advice. ao then spends the latter half the episode being unsure about his reasons for coming along to Generation Bleu HQ. Fleur and Elena weren’t exactly the most welcoming teammates, but they weren’t hostile either; they acted somewhat indifferently and let Ao figure things out on his own. Of course, Ao ends up joining Team Pied Piper on the mission and so we’ll have lots of action next episode.
Other than Ao, Gazelle, Pippo and Han also managed to score some jobs at Generation Bleu. Gazelle and friends really didn’t plan this thing out very well since Christopher could have certainly silenced them for good, but the Generation Bleu boss decided that the three guys were interesting and let them stay. I’m not sure what sort of jobs that Gazelle and friends got though. Gazelle does raise some good questions about Generation Bleu and the thing they do with the glowing cubes. Christopher didn’t exactly give them an answer (or at least it wasn’t shown to the audience), but we’ll find out soon enough now that Ao is part of Team Pied Piper.
Let’s talk about episodic blogging for a second, because I feel many people get the wrong impression of what it is. It’s not a summary of what happened in the episode. Nor is it a review of episode. At least, that’s not the approach I take. It’s using the events of the episode as a springboard for further discussion, whether it is relating to this specific anime, the world of anime in general, or larger societal issues. A good story should do this naturally, although often it requires a bit more brainpower on your part to get the most out of it. This is where discussion and episodic blogging helps. It challenges you to think about the episode, and reading someone else’s posts can increase your enjoyment of the anime as well.
The issue comes in trying to come up with something new to say about every episode. A naturally episodic anime means there is always something new with each episode to talk about, but continuous stories often tread the same points over and over again. There’s a reason why my Steins;Gate posts were half the length of my Durarara posts. Steins;Gate was the building up of the same general ideas gradually. It made for absorbing viewing, but difficult to come up with new things to say each week. Meanwhile Durarara’s naturally episodic nature, notably more in the first half than the second, meant there was always a new perspective to see the series through.
And then there’s series like Space Bros. Space Bros has one message it has been beating ours heads with over and over again with. Follow your dreams. Believe in yourself. Try your hardest and you will make it. The American Dream! Except we’re in Japan, but whatever. That’s a lovely story and all, but it’s repetitive and gets dull quickly. It’s also not evolving as it goes on. Now a lot of stories often have one core message going through them that drives the show. Let’s take Infinite Ryvius and say it’s about how teenagers buckle under responsibility (a rather reductionist way of looking at the series, but bear with me). In Ryvius, the characters evolve to reflect this message. In Space Bros, it hasn’t felt like the message has evolved, nor have the characters, to reflect the passing of time. It’s like listening to song that repeats the same few bars over and over again with the same lyrics repeated each time.
…huh, I think I just described the majority of dance music.
Summary:
The Diva is on its way towards the Federation command center and is flying low over a desert to avoid detection. However, the Divas is shot from below by Vagan mobile suits moving in the desert and forced to land for repairs in a rocky area. The crew gets intel that the Feds have lost a lot of units in the area due to three Vagan desert mobile suits known as the “Phantom 3″. Flit, Seric and the bridge crew then devise a plan to get out of the situation. Kio is outside the bridge trying to listen in, but he then bumps into his aunt Yunoa who is the ship’s medical officer. Wendy is also on the ship as Yunoa’s aid and Wendy is seen chasing down the three kids who somehow ended up on the ship as well. Kio then meets Shanalua who gets Kio to go to the hangar for some simulation training. Outside the rocky area, the Phantom 3 pilots Godom, Deymon and Gratt spy on the Diva using their binoculars, and the three plan to attack after finishing deploying autonomous drones in the nearby sands.
Another Gunhale on the Diva… why am I not surprised.
And Wootbit is jelly because Rody wouldn’t shake his hand.
At the hangar, Kio takes a break from training and talks to Rody and his helper (and also Dique’s grandson) Wootbit, and Rody states that he is getting the AGE Device to make desert equipment for the Gundam. After Rody is called away for some other business, Kio talks to Wootbit but Wootbit is jealous about Kio’s “special status” and gives Kio a shove. Kio feels a bit down about this and doesn’t perform well when simulation training resumes. Shanalua wonders what’s up with Kio and tries to comfort him with a little forehead to forehead, but Kio states that he’s alright.
Kio:… uh I don’t think I have a fever.
How is physically possible for three mobile suits to create a tornado by moving around in a fast but not super fast speed?
Suddenly, alerts ring throughout the ship as the Phantom 3 are approaching in their Gomel mobile suits. Seric and squad sortie to meet the enemy, with Seric and two members acting as bait to draw out the drones and Shanalua and Obright going out on the ground to pick the drones off. The Gundam’s desert pack is not ready so Kio and Flit go out in the Normal form. Upon stepping into the desert, the Gundam is confronted by the Phantom 3 who move really fast around the Gundam in a circle to create a cyclone. The Phantom 3 knock the Gundam around for a bit and go for their combined attack finisher, but Kio dodges using his X-Rounder powers. However, the Phantom 3 prevent the Gundam from escaping and so the Gundam is still trapped. Back in the Diva, the AGE device has finished making the new G Hopper and Wootbit pilots it out. Wootbit blasts the cyclone to get the Phantom 3′s attention, and Shanalua provides cover so that Wootbit can get to the Gundam. Kio detaches the Core Fighter from the G-ceptor to combine with the G-Hopper to form the AGE-3 Fortress that can hover above the sand and has four beam cannons. Kio follows Shanalua’s advice and leads the Phantom 3′s on a run. Kio blasts two of the enemy Gomels, and then Deymon ends up jumping onto the business end of one of the Gundam’s beam cannons and gets blasted to smithereens. Kio then uses the Fortress’ four beam cannons to torch a large swatch of desert to destroy all of the drones. After seeing Kio’s awesome performance, Wootbit decides to be nice to Kio and the two shake hands.
Look who’s got the big guns.
Jumping down the wrong end of the barrel.
Now that’s what I can mowing the lawn.
The two remaining Phantom 3 retreat and vow to avenge their comrade. Back on the Diva, Kio is happy about the victory and thanks Shanalua for her advice during training earlier, but Shanalua doesn’t share the enthusiasm and states that war is nothing to be happy about. After Shanalua walks off, Seric tells Kio that Shanalua’s family has suffered because of war so she’s never happy about it, but Seric encourages Kio to celebrate for a bit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We get a desert battle for the first time in this series, and the AGE-3 Gundam gets a new equipment outfit out of it. The AGE-3 Fortress does exactly what it looks like it will do: it has the hover jets to move quickly along a service, and it has four beam cannons that can blast a whole lot of enemies. Perfect against loads of drones that hide themselves in the desert and the Vagan Desert Sharks… I mean Phantom 3. Unlike the previous Gundams, the AGE-3′s new equipment packs are actually aircraft in their own right and require a pilot. Is each of the packs going to have an unique pilot like how Flit was piloting the G-ceptor and Wootbit was piloting the G-Hopper?

On to the developments in this episode, the Divas is flying slowly towards the Federation command center, and the ship is flying slowly a low because it wants to avoid detection. Well, that plan obviously failed. The Divas doesn’t have cloaking technology, and something that big moving not so fast can’t be that hard to spot especially if the Vagans have any sort of spy satellite. I found it funny that the Divas is shown flying through what looks like North America, but I don’t recall there being any deserts in the plotted path shown in the episode. Their Earth must have different geography than the real Earth lol. It was also amusing how another Gunhale, a Madorna, and even Kio’s aunt Yunoa ended up on the Diva. It must be fate that these families have members that serve on the Divas. I have no idea why the three kids Kio rescued ended up on the ship though. Don’t they have parents (or an orphanage) to go to?

Moving on to the characters, any three group of bad guys in Gundam reminds me of the Black Tri-Stars, and the Phantom 3 fits the bill. Like the Black Tri-Stars, the Phantom 3 has a signature combined attack, and also one of them gets killed off by the Gundam first. The sand cyclone attack was pretty ridiculous even by Gundam standards, but I suppose it appeals more to younger target audience that Gundam AGE has. Another new character introduced in this episode was Dique’s grandson/Arisa’s son Wootbit. Wootbit was pretty upset about Kio getting the spotlight earlier in the show, but he quickly understood that it’s destiny for a Gunhale to play sidekick to the main man from the Asuno family. Lastly, this episode focused a bit Shanalua. On one hand it looks Shanalua is going to be a good mentor/big sister figure for Kio, but on the other hand Shanalua’s behavior is a little suspicious, especially when she’s doing stuff with her phone. Could she be a spy for the bad guys? We’ll see.

Has it really been that long?

Mid-April. That was the last time I wrote a post in sincerity—a quick colloquium on Nekomimi, and with the help of a guest nonetheless. The last time I completed a piece alone was even earlier. Just a tad ironically, that post is on writing, albeit on letters instead of blogs. In any case, it has been too long.

So here it is: What have I been up to the last three weeks? (And where do I start?)

Other than being mired in my studies—exams, papers, the usual jazz—I spent most of my free time in the last month playing host. First, my brother had visited with his friend. A week later, a friend from college did as well. It was fun, exciting, familiar, and absolutely exhausting.

Then, there is a girl.

And, now, I am back in California for the weekend. It was both a planned and an impulsive trip. I had needed to be here for only a day, but somehow extended it for a week. This is possibly not the best idea ever, as I am in the middle of exam season. Between flying, meeting old friends, and taking care of business, I have almost little time left for anything else. Still, for now, I am loving being back…

Once I return to Taiwan, I should be able to get into my usual rhythm again—the hum-drums of watching the newest season, and the occasional splash of a gem. And, hopefully, write.

Cheers, my loves. ♥

”lol…you’re either sleeping or eating” ”oh and watching anime” ”and indulge in fashion.” … Ahh the busy life~

I’d like to start off this post by praising Mutta’s mom for being as weird and insightful as KoroKoro Mutta is. It’s amazing how she knows her son’s behavioral patterns that well. Happy Mother’s Day, Okaasan! You raised two awesome bros!

It isn’t a treat yo self day, it’s a treat yo mama day! Take her out for some fancy steak breakfast!

Mutta gives Hibito less credit than he deserves. He’s a good younger brother, even though he’s rather unrealistic and stubborn. This time around we get to hear from his own mind, rather than Mu-chan nitpicking on his little bro! It’s a nice change of pace and taught us an interesting habit of Mutta’s when he’s feeling down (other than avoid the issue and be a derp). It’s almost cute, and you’d think that the episode would lead into another series adorkable and funny antics of Mutta…

Instead of his usual goofy self, he sat and cried in the shower like Tobias Funke, something I’m sure a lot of us are guilty of. It really tugged at the heartstrings, didn’t it? And the worst part is that Mutta’s concerns are absolutely legitimate. He chose violence, and something like that is hard to argue in favor of, setting the chivalry and kinship aside. This was pretty much my expression during the shower scene >>

But the two old people are back, with old people is wisdom and revelation and happiness, right? (And humor. Those two were pretty funny, with the casino/purse joke lol.) NOPE, the mangaka/writers/whoever were like, screw it, let’s put Mutta in some kind of dangerous situation to mess with the audience’s emotions, and leave it at a cliffhanger, too. Making it really obvious the Fire Extinguisher Man would play a part in the episode didn’t downplay the moment at all. Of course, there’s no doubt that in the next episode Mutta will use his unique memory and attention to detail to easily apprehend the criminal on live TV, which will impress the board back at JAXA as well as heighten his moral. This way he gets to one-up his little brother and to help prove himself the “big brother” he idealistically strives to be.

Even if I’m wrong, getting this feeling of suspense out of me would be great! What a hyped-up cliffhanger. Rather than what happens to Mutta (there’s no way something bad can happen to him, right…?), the reaction from the JAXA selection committee is the key. If saving a bunch of good folk from a fire-extinguishing weirdo isn’t enough to convince Tanuma and the “more than half” of the committee voting for Sawaki, then it’ll be another couple of years or even more for Mutta for accomplish his dreams!

Weirdly enough, I didn’t feel any hatred against Haru’s and Hime’s relationship nor did I feel any hatred against Haru himself. On the contrast, I actually enjoyed seeing their interactions in the hospital together so I guess that’s good for my overall enjoyment in the near future. Speaking of characters, Kuroyukihime has stolen my heart in episode 6 with her pony tail and adorable facial expressions! Though she’ll never reach the level of Mio Akiyama (no other female will ever surpass Mio and that’s a fact!) I do consider her one of the most attractive females I’ve seen (in term of my standards). Any favourites so far fellow readers?

HNNNNNNGGGGG~~!!! <3 <3 <3

As for episode 6 itself, I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would considering I stated in my previous post that I’m only in it for the fighting. The simple fact that Accel World has appealed to me through scenes that don’t involve fighting is proof to myself that I’m now enjoying the show not just for one aspect which is another good sign. Sure I can’t forgive how they had to use the cliche boy-falls-over-girl-and-gropes-her tactic but that’s a minor issue in term of Accel World as a whole. What appealed to me the most in this episode was Taku.

This can be taken out of context so easily… are you thinking what I’m thinking? ;D

We might believe that Taku has changed for the better good and point out that it’s evident in episode 6 that he has good intentions for helping Haruyuki reach Level 2. Even so, something’s missing in the picture. Trusting that Hadena’s subs are accurate, why would Vanquish declare a stay of execution for Taku? Why did Taku wish for Vanquish to not say he’s letting him go? Why did Taku ask for more time? Why did he quit Kendo? And why does Kuroyukihime think he’s suspicious even after all he has done for Haruyuki? My guess is that Taku is trying to win their trust; acting as a double agent. The sad thing is, I get the impression that he’ll gain Kuroyukihime’s trust in episode 7 and in turn will be able to act as a true double agent for Vanquish. What are your thoughts on this matter guys?

Are you sure you want to delete? Yes…HOLY SHIT UNDO UNDO UNDO!!! (Happens to us all the time…)

Rating: I’ve decided to give it 8 out of 10. Slow as it seemed to be, it was to be expected from episode 5 so I’m not too worried about it. In fact, I enjoyed the slow pacing in episode 6 as we’re finally progressing at a good rate story-wise and character wise too. Finishing off with a twist, I’m curious as to see what will happen between Taku and Kuroyuki. Of course, I can’t forget about the ‘Bouncer’ who’s quite an interesting character. At least she’s more interesting that Chiyu at the moment. Being 24 episodes long and still without a full cast, we might be in for another slow paced episode. Then again, if they can continue to intrigue us like how episode 6 hasthen I wouldn’t mind their choice of pacing.
